At a fading vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie treasures rare time together with her loving and idealistic father, Calum (Paul Mescal).

As a world of adolescence creeps into view, beyond her eye Calum struggles under the weight of life outside of fatherhood.

Twenty years later, Sophie’s tender recollections of their last holiday become a powerful and heartrending portrait of their relationship, as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t, in Charlotte Wells’ superb and searingly emotional debut film.

Staring Frankie Corio and Paul Mescal, who has been nominated for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” at the 2023 Academy Awards.

This film is showing as part of the Chiltern Film Society season. Showings are open to non-members. Seating is unreserved – simply purchase a ticket and choose your seat when you arrive.

“A coming-of-age story and an achingly beautiful depiction of a fragile father-daughter relationship, Charlotte Wells’ first feature is a marvel of nuance, full of evident but often unspoken affection … subtle, piercing, small wonder of a film.
