Fizzing with music, humour and warmth, Ali & Ava is a contemporary love story set in Bradford.
Ebullient landlord Ali and pragmatic teaching assistant Ava meet through a chance encounter. Over the course of one month, sparks fly, and they connect. But their newfound passion is threatened by the legacy of Ava’s past relationship and the emotional turmoil following the breakdown of Ali’s marriage.
A keenly observed portrait of 21st century British society, it deftly explores issues of neurodiversity, race, class and mental health as they crop up for one Yorkshire couple.
Intelligent and thoroughly enjoyable, it’s a triumph for writer and director Clio Barnard (The Arbor, The Selfish Giant, Dark River).
This film is showing as part of the Chiltern Film Society season. Showings are open to non-members. Seating is unreserved – simply purchase a ticket and choose your seat when you arrive.
