Joe Longthorne – RIP
The staff and volunteers at The Elgiva were saddened to hear of the death of Mr Longthorne over the weekend; we had very much been looking forward to welcoming Mr Longthorne to our stage and are sure that he would have brought delight and laughter to our audience.
The press release concerning Mr Longthorne’s untimely passing follows below. RIP Joe – you will be missed.
“It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that the nation’s beloved entertainer Joe Longthorne MBE passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, August 3, at his home in Blackpool. Joe died in the arms of his devoted husband of 21 years Jamie, with his rosary beads clutched tight to his chest. He leaves behind sister Ann and brother John.
Show promoter David Halford of Artistes International Management says that he is shocked and saddened by the news. “This is not something we, nor anyone, were expecting.
“Not only was Joe a fantastic performer and entertainer, but Joe and Jamie were great friends too and I had so much respect for both.
“The man was a star in the true essence of the word, always performing even when in pain and only as recent as last week he was on stage in Peterborough and Middlesbrough – both shows were amazing.”
David added that Joe had a god-given gift for performing and no one could touch him vocally.
Tickets purchased for forthcoming shows will be refunded from the point of sale.
David concludes: “Joe was a real star that will shine brightly in the sky and his talent and voice will live on.”
