Lockdown II – everyone loves a sequel

We’re in the sequel business, the follow-up business, the revisiting of source material. Whether it’s appreciation of the greatest sequel of all time (that’s The Empire Strikes Back, folks), showing the film from a musical from a play (Pygmalion to My Fair Lady), or a great tribute act (Abba Forever – on at The Elgiva next March!), we love it all!

And so that brings us to Lockdown II: The Sequel.

It’s just over three months since The Elgiva reopened at the end of July, but on Thursday our curtain will fall again. Following the Government’s latest announcement, the theatre building will be closed from 5 November until 2 December. All shows and events that were scheduled for that time will be rearranged or cancelled, so please bear with us while we pore over diaries and calendars and contact promoters. We will be contacting all ticket holders individually, on a show-by-show basis.

While we are closed, we will not be contactable by phone, so please drop us an email on boxoffice@elgiva.com. Café Encore will also be closed for the lockdown period.

The Government has said they want to preserve Christmas. Going to see a pantomime in a theatre at Christmas is a tradition for many, and we very much look forward to welcoming our audiences back safely to The Elgiva after Lockdown ends and giving you a jolly good show.

All the staff and volunteers at The Elgiva have gone to great lengths to provide our audience and visitors with a safe and enjoyable experience since our reopening; the feedback we received from visitors was that the theatre was a safe place to visit, and and that we had gone above and beyond in every way. We had enjoyed showing films and live screenings, staging a critically-acclaimed photography exhibition and even bringing live theatre back to the stage; in fact, we are one of the only theatres open in the area.

We are committed to following the guidelines and to reopening later this year with our high safety standards. So, we’ll miss you all, but hang on in there, we’ll be back in December, full of Christmas cheer and ready to celebrate our wonderful and unique theatre with you all – as safely as ever.
