The Cellist (Marsden World Premiere) & Dances At A Gathering (Robbins) – The Royal Ballet

Showing on Tue 25 Feb

Showing times: 19:15 - 19:15

Live Stream Duration:
Live screening (12A): The Royal Ballet presents a world premiere with Cathy Marston's first work for the Company on the Main Stage as well as an exquisite piece by Jerome Robbins.

Choreographer Cathy Marston is previously an Associate Artist of the Royal Opera House and Director of Bern Ballett, and much in demand internationally. The inspiration for her first work for The Royal Ballet Main Stage - The Cellist - is the momentous life and career of the cellist Jacqueline du Pré.

The quintessential piano ballet, Dances at a Gathering distils the spectrum of human interaction into the most natural of movements, a landmark for its invention, virtuosity, and constantly shifting emotions. Dances at a Gathering, which premiered in 1969, heralded Jerome Robbins’ return to New York City Ballet after a 13-year absence and is set to the music of Chopin’s mazurkas, waltzes, and études, which were groundbreaking at the time of their composition, rooted in the Slavic character of his Polish homeland, but still conveying the elegance of Paris, where they were created.
