The Handbags and The Gladrags Mike D’Abo and Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers in one big show!
Mike D’Abo joined Manfred Mann in 1966 as lead vocalist. His amazing vocal talent produced the hit singles such as ‘Just Like a Woman’, ‘Semi-Detached Suburban Mr James’ and ‘Mighty Quinn’ with the group. As composer of the songs ‘Handbags and Gladrags’ and ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’, Mike D’Abo went on to perform the lead role in ‘Gulliver Travels’ at The Mermaid Theatre, London as well as portraying Herod on the original recording of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’
Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers were the first London band to be signed by The Beatles manager, Brian Epstein. Their innovative brass sound introduced British youth to soul music. Within three months of Epstein’s management, the band had their first UK hit single with “One Way Love” and a tour of Germany with The Beatles. They were the first British band to be signed to the Motown label.
