A young couple, Ángela, who is Deaf, and her hearing partner Héctor, are expecting a baby.

Ángela has a strong support network of friends and family around her, but she is clearly more at ease among her Deaf friends, whose community and support are vital parts of her wellbeing.

While her lifestyle allows her freedom to live her life the way she wants and needs, the impending arrival of a baby brings up underlying concerns she faces with the hearing world (including Héctor and her family).

Unable to know whether their child will be hearing or Deaf until after birth, the film is a beautiful and nuanced depiction of the couple’s journey through pregnancy and childbirth, and the emotional weight that outcome puts on their relationship, especially when it comes to parenting a child who will inevitably not be able to share one of their experiences.

Through the clever use of sound and silence, the film immerses the audience in Angela’s experience, exploring the struggles she faces given the inadequacies of the world for Deaf people, which she now has to navigate as a new mother, as well as the fact that her partner, and potentially her daughter, will never fully understand what the world is like for her.
