Young Company Facilitator
SALARY:
Dependent on experience –
Teaching time between £18-£20 per hour.
HOURS:
Term-time only.
Teaching hours – Tuesdays 16:30 – 19:30.
(Plus agreed preparation, performance and planning time as required.)

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Elgiva is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and organised Young Company Lead Practitioner to lead our thriving Young Company programme for young people aged 7–16 years.
The successful candidate will plan and deliver engaging weekly sessions during term time, nurturing creativity, confidence, performance skills and teamwork in a supportive and inclusive environment. Working under the direction of the Head of Outreach, they will oversee all aspects of the Young Company, culminating in end-of-term performances and showcase opportunities.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced drama practitioner, teacher or theatre-maker who is passionate about youth arts and developing young people’s confidence through theatre.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Session Planning and Delivery
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality weekly Young Company sessions every Tuesday during term time.
- Create engaging and age-appropriate activities for participants aged 7–16.
- Develop programmes that build performance, theatre-making, communication and teamwork skills.
- Foster a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment where all young people feel valued and supported.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of different ages, abilities and learning styles.
Performance and Creative Development
- Direct and facilitate end-of-term performances, showcases or presentations.
- Support the creative development of productions, including script work, devising, rehearsals and performance preparation.
- Encourage creativity, participation and personal development through the rehearsal and performance process.
- Liaise with Outreach Lead regarding performance schedules, technical requirements and production needs.
Young Company Administration and Organisation
- Work alongside a Young Company Assistant to ensure sessions run smoothly and safely.
- Support participant attendance tracking and communication as required.
- Assist with the ongoing development and growth of the Young Company programme.
- Ensure resources, rehearsal spaces,and session materials are organised and prepared.
- Contribute ideas for future projects, performances, workshops and outreach opportunities.
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Maintain a thorough understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and best practice when working with children and young people.
- Follow all Elgiva safeguarding, health and safety and child protection policies.
- Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Report and record any safeguarding concerns in line with organisational procedures.
- Ensure appropriate behaviour management and participant welfare throughout all activities.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Outreach Lead to deliver the artistic and educational vision of the Young Company.
- Collaborate effectively with the Young Company Assistant, theatre staff, parents, carers and external partners where required.
- Act as a positive ambassador for The Elgiva and its youth programmes.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Experience delivering drama, theatre, performing arts or youth arts programmes for children and young people.
- Experience directing or facilitating youth performances.
- Strong classroom or group management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and engage young people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and best practice when working with children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Good organisational and planning skills.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable
- Drama, theatre, performing arts, teaching or youth work qualification.
- Enhanced Level 3 DBS check.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience working within a theatre or arts organisation.
- Experience of devising theatre with young people.
- Knowledge of current youth arts practice and engagement strategies.
