JOB PURPOSE
The Facilities Operative plays a key role in ensuring the effective cleaning, minor maintenance and operational readiness of The Elgiva and The Little Theatre. This position supports the Lead Operations Officer in carrying out premises cleaning, minor repairs and ensuring the venues remain in optimal condition for events and activities. The role requires a proactive approach, attention to detail and the ability to work independently while coordinating internal teams.
This is a zero hours position with a guide of 8 hours per week, there may be times when more hours are required, for example covering annual leave and busy performance schedules.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleaning
Clean all front-of-house areas including foyers, auditorium, box office, stairwells, corridors and seating areas.
Clean backstage areas such as dressing rooms, rehearsal spaces and production areas.
Clean all toilets, replenishing supplies as required.
Empty bins and ensure waste is disposed of correctly.
Basic Maintenance Tasks
Painting touch-ups on walls, woodwork, and marked surfaces.
Filling small holes, cracks, and scuffs in walls.
Replacing light bulbs and simple fittings (where safe and accessible).
Tightening loose screws on seating, fixtures and furniture.
Basic maintenance of fixtures (e.g., cleaning vents, checking door closers, adjusting signage).
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Knowledge & Experience
Previous cleaning or facilities experience.
Experience in basic building maintenance, DIY repairs, or a related hands-on role.
Familiarity with health and safety regulations (training can be provided if necessary).
Experience with basic maintenance tasks or building checks.
Skills & Attributes
Able to work independently and manage your time well.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
Reliable and trustworthy.
FURTHER
This is a part-time role with flexible hours dependent on the operational needs of the theatre.
The role involves a combination of physical tasks and maintenance responsibilities to ensure the ongoing functionality of The Elgiva and The Little Theatre.
