The Birchwood Painters, a group of artists who live and work at their home, Birchwood in Chesham. Along with cerebral palsy, they share a huge enthusiasm for life and many many other things. Painting is a wonderful way to express themselves freely – it is their conversation with the world.
Whilst their favoured medium is acrylic on canvas, they do often experiment with other media depending on mood and the atmosphere they wish to evoke. Line work and mark making are particularly important to some of the painters. Many pieces reflect the sheer joy that painting brings; others are more reflective. Each artist has a unique style and all their paintings speak from the heart. Their only rule is ‘there are no rules!’
As a group, they have been working together for many years, exhibiting regularly both locally and further afield – Bucks Open Studios, Hemel Hempstead Town Hall, Queens Park Centre Aylesbury and so on. The outbreak of COVID meant they were unable to work with their volunteer/enablers for over two years.
This is their first venture of the post-COVID era and they feel great to be back!
The artists haves decided to contribute the proceeds from any painting sales towards a Sensory Room for Birchwood. Find out more about what a Sensory Room does when you visit the show!
