Chapter Two is a community bookshop open on Chesham High Street selling pre-loved books, gifts, vinyl and stationery with all profits to The Hospice of St Francis.
Chapter Two opened in June 2020, named as the the “next chapter” following the closure of Chapter One bookshop several years ago.
The pre-loved bookshop, where all profits go towards the care provided at The Hospice of St Francis, is beautifully designed and offers book lovers a real treat. It has sustainability at its heart, giving new life to once-cherished books and reusing materials inside the shop from donated bookcases and shelving, to recycled materials on the counter.
There are designated fiction, crime, architecture, travel, cookery and gardening sections with a vintage area devoted to colourful Penguin Originals alongside a dedicated children’s corner with classics, fascinating fact books and stories for all ages.
The shop also sells vinyl and a selection of carefully chosen gifts and cards. The charity bookshop also offers a book repair service and selected books are also available to buy online through Chapter Two’s Abe Books page.
Mark Jackson-Hancock, manager of Chapter Two, has worked in bookshops all his life including Ottakar’s Waterstones, the House of Commons bookshop and the Chorleywood Bookshop.
He spent five years operating a library service to ships at sea and recently worked for the Book Trade Charity in Kings Langley managing their book sales.
Speaking of Chapter Two, Mark says: “Books don’t age and our eclectic collection of treasured books is ready and waiting to inspire, delight, educate and amuse the people of Chesham and beyond.
“We are delighted to be opening our doors to local people and carrying on the tradition of having an independent bookshop in the heart of Chesham and following in the footsteps of Chapter One, run by Liz Payne, which served the town for over two decades.”
With a book club, workshops, book readings, story time and book signings, Chapter Two has something for everyone.
Chapter Two is on the look out for more volunteers to help on the shop floor and sort donations and particularly welcomes applications from BAME backgrounds. Full training will be provided.
Donations, especially children’s books, are also gratefully received!
Love Elgiva members bag themselves a free limited edition Chapter Two tote bag with every purchase.
