Elgiva Open Day 2024 is a resounding success

A day of fun and discovery, topped off with a spectacular technical showcase, the Elgiva Open Day had it all!

It is wonderful to see our Elgiva Open Day becoming a really popular local event!

We had lots of visitors through our doors on Saturday 20th January and lots of exciting things for them to see and do!

We love being a part of our community, so it was lovely people getting to know their friendly, neighbourhood theatre just that little bit better!

Some of this year’s highlights included:

  • Dance workshops with Maggie Monk School of Dancing and Castle Street Dance Studios.
  • Face-painting and psychedelic vibes from the Panda Players (getting us in the mood for their forthcoming production of Sweet Charity).
  • Imaginative crafting with our very own Creative Hearts.
  • Flamenco Dance workshop with the Flamencoshow professionals.

David Cooper, Theatre Manager, The Elgiva, said: “The Elgiva Open Day is a real community event; not only is completely free, but we strive to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy, whether it’s a craft, a look round a fire engine, a chance to find out more about local am-dram opportunities or a proper nosy round the backstage areas!  We love showcasing not only what we do, but who we are. Community and Elgiva for Everything are two pillars that support everything we do, and it’s fantastic to welcome so many people through our doors and celebrate with us.”

Visitors were also able to take a look inside one of Bucks fire engines, make music with Bucks Music Trust, admire the artefacts and history of our local town from Chesham Museum and the Good Earth Gallery and experience silent films with Chiltern Film Society.

Plus, there were backstage tours of the theatre and an explosively-exciting special effects tech showcase!

Liberty Hobbs, Programming and Administration Officer at The Elgiva, organised the event.

She said: “It was a lovely busy, buzzy day. It was super to see so many familiar faces, as well as welcoming people who had never visited The Elgiva before – hopefully it won’t be long before they return to enjoy a show or film! I’m so grateful to everyone who gave up their Saturday to make the event such a success, including those who exhibited or performed, our wonderful volunteers and our incredible tech crew who blew everyone’s socks off with their fabulous tech showcase. See you all in 2025!”

We can’t wait to do it all over again… next year!
