Glitz and glam – artist Shevon Burrows speaks to The Elgiva

We are delighted to welcome Shevon's exhibition to The Elgiva – a unique and exciting collection!

Shevon is a local illustrator, creative designer and a ceramic artist, who also runs the life drawing group Outside the Box Drawing and has three children’s books under her belt.

Originally born in Las Vegas to a showbiz family – her father a musician, her mother a showgirl and granddad a famous magician – the arts and entertainment world runs in her blood, with vibrant colours, glitz and glam portrayed in many of her works.

Shevon studied graphics and Illustration at Brighton University where her main interests were figure drawing and children’s book illustrating. Her dream came true when she landed her first job at Maverick Publishing, where she produced her collection of titles: Suzi’s Smarty Pants, Peggy Sue Can’t Find the Loo and Sushi My Sausage Dog.

After a long stint of travelling the world, Shevon then decided to pursue her love of figure and portrait drawing creating her successful Drink and Draw club in Hemel Hempstead, which now has events in Chesham, St Albans, Watford and online. It’s figure drawing with a difference, with each session hosting a different theme and model, and a fun and social atmosphere encouraging art for all abilities.

Shevon even shared her sketching skills on TV last March, on Channel 4’s Drawers Off hosted by Jenny Eclair, where she was delighted to win the first week of the life drawing/modelling competition, which was also featured on Gogglebox.

Her bright and abstract style is inspired by retro patterns and Miami Art Deco colours, combined with her signature figures and faces. She uses a variety of mixed media, mainly using pens and acrylics with a metallic touch. During lockdown Shevon applied her art to ceramics which proved to be very popular, creating many mugs, vases and crockery which can all be seen on her Instagram page @shevonburrows.art

Since 2021 Shevon has been very involved in Chesham’s art scene, designing The Big Picture Project posters and illustrating the Roger Crab book cover which is showing in the exhibition. She has also been commissioned to create this years Hats Off Chesham! branding for July’s festival and a new mural entitled Baines Walk.
