The Big Community Takeaway is run by the community, for the community.
It exists to help people who are struggling, for whatever reason, and does so without judgement, with love and care, bringing support where it’s needed.
BCT offers those who need it a hot, freshly cooked, two-course meal. However, this is only due to its team of amazing volunteers who help prepare, cook and deliver the food. At the moment, BCT provides services in Chesham, Amersham and surrounding villages, and it relies donations to keep providing the service it does – and every penny counts.
It costs £7.50 for every hot two-course meal BCT makes. Your kind donations at our pantomime will help feed those locally who need it most.
Please be generous this Christmas time!
History of the Big Community Takeaway
The Big Community Takeaway was the brainchild of Lisa Walker, Mark Rann and Mark Rosales. They saw an opportunity as lockdown began in March 2020 to help feed those most in need in their community.
With the help of seven restaurants and catering businesses in Chesham, they started to deliver food on a Friday night to key workers and others who needed support.
The BCT is super-grateful for the support of Brazil’s Kitchen, Eat to the Beat, The Junction, Roots, Sizzler Express and The Tavern who all worked with BCT when the initiative was first set up.
Between May 2020 and April 2021, Big Community Takeaway delivered over 10,000 meals in the Chesham and Amersham area. 47% of these were for children, whose parents were often going without food themselves.
Since many businesses have been able to return to some normality, BCT has streamlined its operation. Now it provides meals on a Tuesday evening from the kitchen of the Black Horse in Chesham Vale. BCT has over 100 volunteers who prepare, cook and deliver the food, so it arrives fresh and warm to clients’ doors.
