The stage is set, the costumes are hanging and the excitement is palpable as The Elgiva Youth Theatre’s talented young performers dive headfirst into their summer project – a spectacular rendition of Peter Pan Jr! It’s been a whirlwind of rehearsals, camaraderie and sheer determination as these budding thespians gear up to deliver an unforgettable performance at The Elgiva.
This year, our summer workshop is the junior edition of the original musical adaptation of J M Barrie’s Peter Pan. This high-flying Tony Award-winning musical has been performed around the world and delighted audiences for 60 years; adapted for younger performers, it’s an action packed musical that allows local young performers to bring their favourite pirate-villains, boys who don’t grow up and magical fairies to life! Because the production features a number and range of roles, The Elgiva can offer every child a chance to shine!
With last week’s preparations and rehearsals in the rear-view mirror and this week’s rehearsals perfecting the production, the youthful cast, ranging from brave adventurers to mischievous fairies, are honing their skills, practising their lines and bringing their characters to life. Led by the dynamic duo of Director & Producer Danielle Gaglione and Choreographer (and Elgiva Apprentice) Liberty Hobbs, the cast is soaring to new heights under their expert guidance.
The musical magic is in the capable hands of none other than Musical Director Jill Neenan, whose deft touch is sure to make the show’s melodies linger in the hearts of the audience. From toe-tapping dance numbers to heartwarming ballads, the cast is set to deliver a performance that will transport the audience straight to Neverland.
Assisting in bringing this enchanting tale to life is Assistant Director Ben Parkinson, who is lending his creative prowess to both acting and choreography, ensuring every scene is spot on. Behind the scenes, Dot and Pat are keeping everyone happy and safe, and the incredible Elgiva Technical Team are hard at work to ensure audiences are wowed by the lights, staging and sound.
As well as our amazing cast, we have had the benefit of a group of terrific junior techs who are helping with scenery, lighting design, sound, music and all the backstage wizardry.
